- Rotarians meet on a regular basis, often weekly, to enjoy each other's fellowship and discuss ways to serve others.
- Rotary is compassion for the underprivileged, the ill and the disabled, who benefit from over 50,000 Rotary Club service projects in the world each year.
- Rotary runs the biggest non-government scholarship scheme in the world.
- The Rotary Foundation gives more than £21 million every year to educational and humanitarian programmes which promote international understanding.
- Rotary began in 1905 in Chicago. The world headquarters are in Evanston, Illinois, USA and the Secretariat of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland is at Kinwarton Road, Alcester, Warwickshire B49 6BP.

Practical Support
In addition, Rotary Club members have provided practical support to the community in a number of ways. A free concert of musical variety was held in November for senior citizens. This now annual event has been hosted by the Rotary Club for each of the last 20 years and is eagerly anticipated by all. In conjunction with the Stroke Association’s Stroke Awareness week, a blood Pressure Test station was set up for a day in Richmond Town Hall. The public were invited to come in and have their blood pressure monitored and enjoy a cup of coffee served by our President and other Rotarians. Members were also busy this year helping to paint the railings around the skateboard park, putting wood preservative on the seats in the Friary rose garden and helping with the gardening at Marrick Priory.
One of the most successful events, organised in conjunction with other Rotary Clubs in the district, was an engineering competition held at Catterick Garrison. More than 300 school children took part and enjoyed the challenge of designing and building a working model of a lift bridge.
National and International Awareness
At a National level, the club has supported the Motor Neurone Disease Association, the British Liver Trust and the British Heart Foundation. Several International projects have also benefited including Rotary’s own Shelter Box scheme, Water Aid and The Gambia Rug Aid Project.
